Frequently asked questions

The questions insurers, adjusters, and defense attorneys ask us most. Don't see yours? Reach out — we're glad to talk it through.

What does Ridgeback Investigations do?

We are a licensed private investigation firm focused on insurance and litigation support. Our work includes covert insurance and workers' compensation surveillance, claims and fraud investigation, social media and background research, medical canvassing, records retrieval, and process service.

Who do you work with?

We work with insurers, third-party administrators, self-insured employers, and the defense attorneys who represent them. Our findings are built to support claim decisions, depositions, and litigation.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Michigan and Ohio, including the Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, and Ann Arbor markets in Michigan and the Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati markets in Ohio.

Are you licensed?

Yes. Ridgeback Investigations holds Professional Investigator License #3701300308 in Michigan and Investigation Agency License #20242100562331 in Ohio.

Will the evidence you gather hold up in a claim file or courtroom?

That is our standard. Every timestamp, frame, and line of a canvass is gathered within the law and documented to survive scrutiny. Evidence that crosses a legal line becomes a liability the day it reaches a courtroom, so everything we deliver is built to strengthen your position rather than weaken it.

How do I refer a case?

Use the Order page on this site to send us the details confidentially, or contact us directly by phone or email. Tell us the claimant, the claim or file number, the location, and what you need, and we will take it from there.

What do I receive at the end of an assignment?

Deliverables depend on the service. Surveillance assignments include a written report and time-stamped video of any documented activity; social media and background work includes a documented report of public findings; medical canvass and records work includes the requested records and a summary. We report what actually happened, including when a claimant is genuinely limited.

How is confidentiality handled?

Your case stays as quiet as the field work. Files are seen only by the people you want in them, and we maintain a low profile in the field and the tradecraft to keep it that way.

How much does an investigation cost?

Pricing depends on the service, the number of surveillance days or calls ordered, and the location. Contact us with the basics of your case and we will provide a quote.
